The New Deal.

‘Tis the season of hosiery. Paired with a mini
skirt and a sequin blazer (we’re looking at you, Selena Gomez), or styled
with a little black dress and a pair of killer heels (à la Alexa Chung at the
Fashion Awards), tights and stockings are a great way to add style –
and perhaps an extra layer of warmth – to your outfits during the autumn and winter months.
From matte to glossy, opaque to sheer, and black to skin-toned shades, there’s
a lot more to consider than just the denier number when it comes to picking out a pair of classic tights.
And then, of course, there is also patterned hosiery (think delicate designs like a back
seam, polka dots or lace detailing) to elevate your
winter style.
‘Tis the season of hosiery
In 2024, tights should no longer be an obligation but a fashion choice.
Google searches for ‘tights’ are up by 115% since the temperatures
first dropped, and at high-street favourite M&S two
pairs are sold every minute. So what styles are we buying?
The top spot is claimed by the retailer’s 60 Denier Body Sensor
Tights (a handy three-pack that sells for just £8 and is available in a
black, navy and brown). The 40 Denier Body Sensor Tights (£8 for a three-pack) are second favourite,
followed by the 30 Denier Body Sensor Tights (£8 for a three-pack).
The fourth most popular pair is the 60 Denier Magicwear Opaque Tights
(£14 for a two-pack), and the top five is rounded out by the 100 Denier Magicwear Opaque Tights
(£14 for a two-pack).
These are the number one selling tights at
Marks & Spencer
M&S believes the decision between opaque and sheer tights should be based on the formality of our outfit.
‘Opaque black tights will go with basically everything. Often said
to clash with black; blue or brown hues are also an option.’
‘Sheer tights are great for more formal occasions and
warmer temperatures, as they provide a lighter and more
breathable option,’ the high street giant added.
‘You can achieve that elegant, barely-there look with
a little extra coverage.’
Similarly, intricate patterns, logos and glitter are best suited for
evening looks, says M&S. ‘For a daytime
or office look, stick with polka dots or diamond patterned tights, or if you’re looking for some added cosiness, try cable-knit
tights for some subtle texture.’
This is actually pretty contested. If you go by the seven “traditional” continents (North America,

A ménage à trois and intimacy outside the bedroom are sexual fantasies
that we’ve all heard before.
But what about having sex in a desert, or even a storage unit?
These are just two of the unusual sexual fantasies
social media users have confessed to trying.
A hilarious Reddit thread, named ‘what is a sexual
fantasy you do not recommend’, features the bizarre sexcapades of commenters — many of
who bitterly regret their risqué acts.
The thread began with a question from user u/Fantastic-Ant-4429, who asked:
‘What is a sexual fantasy you do not recommend fulfilling?’
Having sex in the desert, a library and on a plane were some of the most
upvoted responses, Huffpost reported.
Reddit user u/ElPresidente714 admitted to trying to have sex
in the desert at night when coming back from Vegas. But in reality, they were met with
‘creepy crawly desert things don’t sleep at night’.
Another, u/DonSmitty said a ‘buddy in high school’ covered his girlfriend (including her genitals)
in chocolate syrup. But it didn’t end well — she got
infected with a ‘crazy’ yeast infection.
Doing it in a storage unit was another unusual fantasy which ended
badly. User u/isthisfark wrote: ‘There’s a closing time
and if you miss it you’ll get stuck behind the gates for the night.
Then the people who live there start rustling.’
Not everyone pursues or even plans to act on their sexual fantasies in real life.
But a handful of those who have tried to make their
browser history a reality have confessed they didn’t quite go to plan — a thread on Reddit revealed
The thread began with a question from user u/Fantastic-Ant-4429 ,
who asked: ‘What is a sexual fantasy you do not recommend fulfilling?’ (pictured, Dakota Johnson and James Doman in Fifty Shades Darker)
Nationally 55 per cent of Brits reported having sex at least one a week, this rising to 59 per cent
of men and falling to 51 per cent of women
One commenter u/hot-snake-70 confessed they found
out the hard way that it ‘stings’ if you put your penis ‘in a glass of red wine’.
Threesomes were also suggested to be a bad idea with user
u/Touristupdatenola adding: ‘If I wanted to disappoint two people simultaneously,
I’d have dinner with both my parents.’
Another user u/odysseus-23, warned against trying to have sex in a library due
to the likelihood of getting ‘caught on the cameras’.
And while joining the Mile High Club — engaging in sex acts while aboard
an airplane — might sound exciting, some warn that it
is anything but.
‘Mile high club. Trust me, these bathrooms
are getting smaller and smaller. And people notice, they always notice,’ u/bigindianenergy29
commented.
Some people came to the conclusion that the bed is
the best location. u/Mundane-Garbage1003 wrote: ‘Most
“having sex in an unusual place” fantasies in my experience quickly turn into
a lesson on why people usually just use the bed.’

Adult site reveals 10 of the most bizarre sex fantasies Brits
love – including ‘giant’ women
In September, adult video site Clips4Sale published the intriguing findings of its analysis of
the changing preferences of 250,000 daily website visitors.
The analysis revealed a whole host of obscure fantasies held by its
users, including BBL — a preference for women who’ve undergone buttock-enlargement procedures — and Giantess, which describes a female giant.
Brits are among the most prolific porn users in the world,
with an average of 16,600,000 searches for adult content
made each month.
The adult film industry is estimated to be worth more than £15billion a year.
While thousands of British men and women watch and enjoy pornography without
issue, about one in 20 Brits have a porn addiction.
In some of the most extreme cases, experts have
treated patients who watch x-rated content for up to
14 hours a day, according to not-for-profit online therapy programme
Pivotal Recovery.
However, Many suffers understandably avoid seeking professional help out of shame and embarrassment for their affliction or fear of exposure.

Lady Gaga is getting back to basics.
Following her panned performance in the flop movie Joker:
Folie à Deux, the New York City native, 38, is releasing a single titled Disease, set
to be released Friday.
Diesase, the first of songs from her forthcoming seventh album,
was teased Tuesday on the Grammy-winning artist’s Instagram account,
as she captioned the image: ‘DISEASE 10.25.’
In a teaser clip from the viewpoint of an approaching vehicle,
the actress-singer, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta,

Gaga’s label Universal Music on Monday put out pre-saves for the forthcoming single,
with links to Spotify and Apple Music, Variety reported.

Joker: Folie À Deux is branded ‘bleak’ and the ‘most disappointing follow-up’ by critics
The singer, whose hits include Bad Romance, Born This Way, Just Dance and
Poker Face, is headed back to her pop persona following
the September release of her album Harlequin, which was inspired by Joker: Folie à
Deux.
Among the tracks on the album included two new songs, and standards such as That’s Entertainment, That’s Life and Get Happy.
Like the film, it was not an initial commercial success, marking her lowest ever entry for a
full-length record on the Billboard 200 charts at
number 20.
Lady Gaga in the movie played the role of Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix, who earned the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in the
franchise’s 2019 film Joker.
According to the outlet, Joker: Folie à Deux
‘could potentially lose $150 to $200 million’ despite studio insiders saying it would break
even.
The Warner Bros. film has made $192.2 million worldwide, with $56.6 million in domestic box office revenue,
according to Box Office Mojo.

Lady Gaga is ‘disappointed’ at the immense flood of negative reactions to Joker: Folie à
Deux, with the singer’s team now keen to quickly push out other projects
to help distract from the furor over the film, insiders claim.
Todd Phillips‘ sequel was officially released in theaters on October 4,
but despite expectations, it bombed, raking in just
under $40 million at the domestic box office, and receiving the lowest CinemaScore in comic book
movie history.
Gaga, 38, is reportedly confused at the lack
of love for her turn as Harleen Lee Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn, alongside
Joaquin Phoenix, 49, as the Joker – a role that won him the best actor Oscar in 2019 – in the wake of the standing ovation it received at the Venice Film
Festival last month.
‘Gaga is surprised by the response to Joker 2 and is shocked that people don’t
love it after the response it received from critics before it
premiered,’ a source exclusively told DailyMail.com.
‘She put so much heart into the movie and has so
much respect for the DC comics fan base.’
Lady Gaga is ‘disappointed’ at the immense flood
of negative reactions to Joker: Folie à Deux
They added: ‘Her team is quietly looking at other
projects they can roll out as they want to move on this from as
quickly as possible.’
But despite the lackluster reception from fans, a second source claimed
she is not letting it deter her from returning to the big screen, with the singer said to be eyeing up a Quentin Tarantino movie.
‘She is disappointed that Joker is pretty much a bomb,’ they said.
‘She thought that this film could get her an Oscar nomination, especially since the
first film was such a success and Joaquin won an Oscar.
‘She would now like to land a role in Quentin Tarantino’s next and
final film. Nobody knows what that is going to be,
but she wants to audition.
‘She’s going to lobby hard to get a meeting with him once a script is presented, it is
a bucket list moment for her to be involved.’
Tarantino was set to create The Movie Critic which would
have been his tenth and final film, but on April 17, sources told The
Hollywood Reporter that the project was canceled.
The famed director is now believed to be working up a new project
to mark his final cinematic release.
The singer’s team is now keen to push out other projects to help distract from the backlash, insiders have told DailyMail.com
Joker: Folie à Deux has flopped at the box office, with the psychological musical thriller also landing the lowest CinemaScore for
a comic book movie
Gaga, real name is Stefani Germanotta, is hoping the Joker 2 flop will just be a small blip in her career, after
the film received a D rating on CinemaScore — the lowest score for a comic book movie.
Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters
earlier this year and also received terrible reviews — holds the higher score of
C+.
Joker notably opened with $96.2 million on its theater release in 2019 and eventually took a little over $1 billion in the global box office.
The first movie – which was also directed by Phillips – had a budget
of between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget more than doubled to around $200
million for Folie À Deux.
The sequel screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month,
where it earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.
It had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the number drastically dropped amid mixed reviews before release.
Audiences have since shared their opinions on the sequel,
which features multiple musical sequences.
‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve this,’ wrote one on X.
‘What happened to the script?’
Another user added: ‘Stop making sequels as musicals if
the original wasn’t a musical.’
An insider told DailyMail.com: ‘Gaga is surprised by
the response to Joker 2 and is shocked that people don’t
love it after the response it received from critics before it premiered’
‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ shared a third, along with a
monkey staring out a window.
One fan branded it ‘bad,’ adding:’ It was pretentious and dull.
Has the aesthetic of an arthouse film without the substance.
‘It also insults the audience’s intelligence. the songs were
also underwhelming too. They shouldn’t have let this escape to theaters.’
Another said: ‘The audience that loved the first movie is not the same audience
running to see musicals. This was a gigantic mistake from step 1.’
Many social media users have also slammed the movie’s final scene,
which saw Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck brutally stabbed to death by a fellow
inmate who could in fact by the real Joker.
But others did jump in in defense of the film,
with one hailing it ‘amazing.’
‘100% as divisive as people are making it out to be,
‘ they continued. ‘I love that the film didn’t try to
be a traditional sequel, and fully committed to the storytelling they presented.
It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs or any other crowd pleasing aspects.’
Another user said: ‘I kinda loved Joker 2. I loved how it was structured as a meta-exploration of the first film’s fandom and the musical elements were a lot of fun.’
Another source explained: ‘Gaga thought that this film could get her an Oscar nomination’ (pictured director Todd Phillips, Gaga and
Phoenix in September)
The insider explained: ‘She would now like to land a
role in Quentin Tarantino’s next and final film’
One user claimed the film is ‘getting universal hate despite being
more interesting and creative than anything marvel
has done in years is expected.’
‘Joker 2 is genuinely such a clever movie which carries the character study format of the first movie into the second in a way which, surprisingly, will floor you by the end,’ declared another.
‘I’m astounded reception is this bad because this is SUCH
a clever movie.’
A video of Gaga and Phoenix’s awkward reaction to being asked if Folie à Deux was
‘everything they expected’ went viral amid the backlash.
For a few seconds, the two stars sat in silence as they both waited
for the other to answer the question.
‘Tell them how you feel, Joaquin,’ Gaga said to her costar as she held out a fake microphone in front of him.
‘It’s so hard to talk about but I think we feel
like we achieved what we set out to do,’ he replied.
Celine Dion’s showstopping ‘live’ performance at the start of the Paris 2024 Olympics was pre-recorded,
it was claimed in France today.
Millions were moved to tears when the 56-year-old Canadian superstar
sang Hymne à L’amour (Hymn to Love) in front of the Eiffel Tower.
It was the culmination of a lavish Opening Ceremony mainly held along the banks of the
River Seine – one that President Emmanuel Macron said was
the ’emotional highlight’ of the sporting extravaganza.
But on Friday, the highly respected Liberation newspaper quoted multiple music industry experts who said the July 26th performance was ‘without a shadow of a doubt’ pre-recorded.

In comments that were republished across French media,
a sound engineer who asked to remain anonymous said: ‘It was 100% playback, you can hear it from the first notes.’
Others said it was ‘without a shadow of a doubt’ pre-recorded, as was
a performance by Ms Dion in rehearsals.
A YouTuber musician who uses the name Wings

same – something that is technically impossible, as there will always be
variations between any two versions of a live song.
The Olympics performance was meant to be a triumphant comeback for Ms Dion, who has been battling the
incurable stiff-person syndrome.
Hymne à L’amour was chosen because it was originally sung
by the late French music icon Edith Piaf.
Thousands of fans took to social media to praise Ms Dion, whose greatest hits include ‘My

Hamas’ leader Yahya Sinwar could have given an order to execute all the hostages who
remain in Gaza if he died, a top Israeli negotiator has claimed.
Sinwar died on Wednesday after the IDF encountered him by chance, sending
a drone to kill the terror leader.
Gershon Baskin, the Israeli negotiator who oversaw Sinwar’s 2011 release from an Israeli prison, along with 1,026 Palestinian prisoners, in exchange for the return of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shilat, said that his death was a
‘moment of either opportunity or a moment of doom.’
‘A moment of doom because there are rumours that Sinwar instructed people holding hostages that, should
he be killed, they should kill their hostages,’ he told the Telegraph.
At the time of Sinwar’s death, just over 100 hostages remained in Gaza, with 60
thought to still be alive.
Those who remain alive are at risk of never being returned to
their families, according Haaretz, which reported on Sunday that top US officials, including Secretary of State Anthony Blinken,
have assessed there is a slim chance of a deal being brokered, given the tensions between Israel and Hamas.

People protest against the government, to demand a ceasefire deal and the immediate release
of hostages kidnapped during the deadly October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas, in Tel Aviv, Israel
A senior Israeli official told the newspaper on Sunday, several days after Sinwar’s passing:
‘There are currently no serious cease-fire talks, and Blinken is fully aware of this.’

They added: ‘It’s unclear how Sinwar’s death will impact any
potential negotiations, if they even exist at this stage.’
While Baskin told the Telegraph that it wasn’t possible to confirm whether Sinwar
had a kill order on the hostages, he said the rumours ought to
be taken seriously, given how little Hamas appears to care for them.
He cited the horrific killing of six hostages in tunnels
under Rafah in late August.
Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said the six were ‘cruelly murdered by Hamas just
a short time before we got to them.’
The six dead hostages were identified as Eden Yerushalmi, 24, Carmel Gat, 39, Almog Sarusi, 26, Alex
Lubnov, 26, Ori Danino, 25, and Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23.
Five of those who were recovered had been attending the
Nova music festival when Hamas terrorists began slaughtering festivalgoers,
while taking others hostage. Gat was at her
family kibbutz when she was captured.
The time on the clock by the end of the footage is 1.32am,
just five hours before the first terrorists were spotted breaching into Israeli territory

US probing ‘leaked Israeli documents’ which ‘indicate Britain’s involvement in a deadly

He said the return of the hostages depended entirely
on whether Israel is able to make a deal with Hamas.
‘It’s a moment of opportunity where Israel should be issuing a very
clear call that anyone who’s holding a hostage that releases them will be given free passage for themselves and their family out of Gaza to
another country, as well as a lot of money.
‘In order to encourage them to do that, Israel
should also be reaching out to Egypt and Qatar and tell
them to renew the negotiations quickly, not on the deal that’s
been negotiated without success for almost four months, but on a deal that
would bring the hostages home quicker and would obviously require
Israel to end the war.’
He said a deal would likely mean the release of
Palestinian prisoners, a controversial point for many Israelis who believe that their release would simply lead to
another October 7-style attack in the future.

Head Yahya Sinwar
Sinwar’s lair, discovered by Israeli soldiers in the Tel al-Sultan area, was well-resourced,
with food, water and other supplies to help him survive for months underground
These are the disquieting images that show Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was callously
hiding out in relative comfort from his underground lair as he ordered his terror group to carry out the bloodiest massacre Israel has
ever endured
But Baskin said it was a mistake to think like this: ‘October 7 wasn’t because of Sinwar.
[It] was because we’re occupying another people for 56 years without enabling
them to ever believe that they’re going to be free, or locking two million people in Gaza under poverty and telling them that they’ll never be able to leave Gaza.’

Hamas ‘will keep new leader’s identity SECRET to avoid another assassination’
He said he hoped the deadly attack would ultimately force Israelis to ‘confront the fallacy of basing its policies, vis-à-vis the
Palestinians, on military force’.
‘For Palestinians, the lessons learned must, first and foremost, be that there should no longer be an armed struggle
as part of their liberation strategy.
‘Right or wrong, the armed struggle primarily brings death and destruction.’
He added: ‘Every person living between the river and the sea must have
the same right to the same rights.
‘From that principle, we can move forward.
Freedom, self-determination, security, and dignity for all.’

Des électeurs attendent l’ouverture d’un bureau de
vote à Windhoek, le 29 novembre 2024 en Namibie
Namibians returned to vote on Friday in 36 polling stations reopened two days after a chaotic
election, set to test the ruling party’s 34-year grip on power, was marred by technical problems.
Tensions are mounting in the historically stable and peaceful southern African nation where Wednesday’s election was marked by long delays
and labelled a “sham” by the opposition.
Some people waited 12 hours in line to vote in presidential and
legislative polls, billed as the toughest yet for the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) party, in power since Namibia’s 1990
independence from South africa.
Wednesday’s queues were caused by many technical problems, including issues with tablets used to register voters and shortages of ballot papers.
In some cases, torches used to show up invisible ink had
run out of batteries and mobile voting teams had left areas with
voters still in the queues, it said.
Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the electoral commission extended the vote for a second time, giving Namibians until Saturday evening to vote.
In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked
to reopen, about 60 people showed up on Friday, including Kluivert Muuondjo
who arrived at 4:30 am.
The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:00 pm on Wednesday but
left before being able to vote as he had exams the next day.

2024 en Namibie
“Everyone will have the chance to vote,” he said. But because Namibians can vote at any given polling station, he was worried “everyone will flock to one place again.”
The disarray led to angry complaints from opposition parties with some calling for a halt in the
electoral process.
Opposition parties were scheduled to meet on Friday and issue a joint statement, according to Christine Aochamus who represents the Independent Patriots
for Change (IPC) party.
Youth unemployment, enduring inequalities and the emergence of a generation born after independence are challenging support towards SWAPO
which has ruled since 1990.
Its candidate, vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who could become the first woman to lead the country if elected, could
face an unprecedented second round in the mineral rich country.
“To open only one place in Khomas (the region of which the capital is part of) is absurd,” said voter Ensley Engermund, who also said
he couldn’t vote on Wednesday because of long queues despite trying four different polling stations.
“Only 1.5 millions voters are registered and we get this chaos?” asked the 49-year-old security agent.
“It was to get people frustrated.”

Jackie O Henderson has left her father Tony red-faced
after a shocking stunt in which he was tricked into reading about her threesome live on-air.
The awkward family exchange occurred on Tuesday’s Kyle and Jackie O Show when the radio queen and co-host Kyle Sandilands were discussing Jackie’s new memoir
The Whole Truth.
Before getting her father on the line, Jackie explained to listeners that she was about to get an unsuspecting Tony to read an excerpt that detailed a night of passion with
then boyfriend ‘Ugly’ Phil O’Neil and a 19-year-old stripper.
‘So this is going back to my Gold Coast days when I had met Phil who
[later became] my first husband,’ the 49-year-old explained.
‘I had only just met him at this point. I think [we were] two months into seeing
each other.’
Jackie then prompted her unprepared father to read
the excerpt that detailed Phil’s living situation with the stripper and
another, rather unsavory ‘stoner’ flatmate.
‘He lived in a place in Main Beach that felt like a motel with
two weird flatmates. One was a stoner guy who would sit
there blazed out of his gourd,’ Tony read from Jackie’s book.
Jackie O Henderson has left her father Tony a little red faced after making him read about her first threesome live
on air
The book then turned to Jackie’s first ménage à trois.
‘Then there was the stripper they lived with [named] Christie,’ Tony read.
‘We went out to a nightclub one night and we came home and we were having sex and Christie decided she wanted to join us.

Jackie ‘O’ Henderson reveals shock career move after opening up about secret addiction battle
‘The idea of a threesome had obviously never occurred to me before I had never even considered it because it didn’t sound like me.’
Tony soldiered on with the revealing passage which revealed that
Jackie and Phil’s third was only interested in one half of the equation.
‘I had no idea what to do – she was this cute 19-year-old with a
dark bob and an amazing body but she was only into women,’
Tony continued.
‘Phil was really excited but Christie kept slapping him away.
She did her thing and then left.’
When Kyle asked Jackie to clarify what she meant by ‘did her
thing’, a sheepish Jackie replied: ‘Let’s not talk
about this in front of my dad, shall we.’

Despite the raciness of the content he had just read from his
daughter’s book, Tony admitted he was not shocked by the revelations.
‘Am I amazed? Probably not,’ he said.
‘I’m sort of trying to take all of this in. After all, its
my daughter we’re talking about. If it was somebody else, it would be a different story altogether.
I’d be so excited.
‘I’ve been round the block a few times. I understand how these things happen.’
Another passage in the book revealed a very awkward encounter
between Phil’s male flatmate and Jackie’s mother Julie.
‘My mum came over once and when no one answered the door, she put her face to the
screen to see inside and that flatmate was right there
in the living room, pants down, w***ing,’ a shocked Tony read.
The revelations come after Jackie spoke for the first
time about her years-long battle with drugs which saw her secretly go to rehab at The Betty Ford Clinic in November in 2022.
During a tearful on-air admission, Jackie said
at the height of her addiction, she took around 10-12 Stilnox/Ambien sleeping pills and 24 Panadeine Forte painkillers a day.

ANGELA HARTNETT’S BEEF & VEAL MEATBALLS
Meatballs are super-quick to make for a weeknight supper and there are many ways to serve them
(see tip). The veal in these gives a lightness to the result, but you can swap it out for all beef,
or flavourful pork mince. This is a good way to use up any day-old bread hanging around.
The recipe is easy to double up on and freeze so you have a
meal for an emergency.
SERVES 4
4 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for the onion
1 onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
400g tin chopped tomatoes
200g white bread (day old, if possible)
whole milk (enough to soak the bread)
500g beef mince
250g English veal mince
2 tbsp finely grated parmesan, plus extra to serve
4 anchovies, finely chopped
2 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley
salt and freshly ground black pepper
350g dried spaghetti, to serve (optional; see tip)
1 First make a tomato sauce. In a saucepan, heat a dash of olive oil over a medium heat, then add half
the chopped onion and half the garlic, then sauté for 10 minutes to soften. Add the tomatoes and when the liquid
starts to bubble, reduce to a simmer and leave to cook, stirring occasionally (about 20 minutes, to create a thick
sauce), while you make the meatballs.
2 In a bowl, soak the bread in the milk until soft. In another bowl, mix the beef, veal, parmesan, anchovies,
half the parsley and the rest of the onions and garlic.
Then add the soaked bread, lightly squeezing any excess milk from it first.
Mix well and season with salt and pepper. Mould the mixture into 12-14 meatballs.
3 Put the 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat.
When hot, add the meatballs, turning (for about
5 minutes) to ensure they colour all over.
If necessary, cook in batches so they are not all squashed together, setting each batch aside on a plate while you cook the remainder.
4 To finish, remove the meatballs from the pan and set aside.
Pour the tomato sauce into the frying pan over a
medium heat. Put the meatballs back into the pan for a further 4-5 minutes to cook through.
Sprinkle with the remaining parsley before serving.
TIP You can serve the meatballs as they come, or on top of spaghetti.
If you would prefer the latter, cook the pasta according to the packet
instructions until al dente. Drain it in a
colander, reserving a cupful of the cooking water to loosen the meatball sauce if
necessary, and then transfer it back to the pan and toss it with
a little olive oil and butter. Put the spaghetti on a serving plate and
top with the meatballs and sauce. Finish with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of parmesan.

His biggest box office success was with The Sixth Sense, grossing $672.8 million while working with a $40 million budget 25 years ago.

Do Greens and crossbenchers who claim that transparency and integrity is at the heart
of their reason for entering Parliament in the first place hear themselves?
In the past few days they have mounted self-serving arguments against proposed electoral reforms
that the major parties look set to come together to support.
The reforms include caps for how much money wealthy individuals can donate, caps on the amount candidates can spend in individual electorates to
prevent the equivalent of an arms race, and a $90million limit on what any party can spend
at an election – actually less than the major parties currently spend.
The proposed new laws also include lower disclosure thresholds for
donations, thus increasing the transparency of who
makes political donations in the first place.
So the wealthy wont be able to hide behind anonymity while using their
cash to influence election outcomes – and the extent to which they can use their wealth at all will be limited.
The bill will further improve transparency by also
increasing the speed and frequency that disclosures of donations need to be made.
At present we have the absurd situation in which donations get made – but you only find out the details of who has given what
to whom many months later, well after elections are won and lost.
In other words, what is broadly being proposed will result in much
greater transparency and far less big money being injected into campaigning by
the wealthy.
Teal Kylea Tink claimed the major parties were ‘running scared’ with the
policy and warned the reform would ‘not stop the rot’
Greens senate leader Larissa Waters (left) fired a warning shot
– saying if it serves only the major parties ‘it’s a rort,
not reform’. Teal independent ACT senator David Pocock (right) said: ‘What seems
to be happening is a major-party stitch-up’
Anyone donating more than $1,000 to a political party, as
opposed to $16,000 under the current rules, will need to disclose
having done so. And how much they can donate will be capped.
Yet the Greens and Teals have quickly condemned the proposed new laws, labeling them a ‘stitch-up’, ‘outrageous’ and ‘a rort, not a reform’.
They have lost their collective minds after finding out that Labor’s proposal just might secure
the support of the opposition.
I had to double check who was criticising what exactly before even starting to write this column.
Because I had assumed – incorrectly – that these
important transparency measures stamping out the influence of the
wealthy must have been proposed by the virtue-signalling Greens or the corruption-fighting Teals, in a united crossbench effort to
drag the major parties closer to accountability.
More fool me.
The bill, designed to clean up a rotten system, is being put forward by Labor and is opposed by a growing cabal of crossbenchers.
It makes you wonder what they have to hide.
Put simply, the Greens and Teals doth protest too much on this issue.
Labor is thought to be trying to muscle out major political donors such as
Clive Palmer
Another potential target of the laws is businessman and Teal funder Simon Holmes à Court
The Greens have taken massive donations in the past, contrary to their irregular calls to
tighten donations rules (Greens leader Adam Bandt and
Senator Mehreen Faruqi are pictured)
The major parties have long complained about the influence the likes of Simon Holmes à Court wields
behind the scenes amongst the Teals.
And we know the Greens have taken massive donations from
the wealthy in the past, contrary to their irregular calls to tighten donations
rules.
Now that tangible change has been proposed, these bastions of virtue are running a mile from reforms that will curtail dark art of political donations.
The Labor government isn’t even seeking for these transparency rules to take
effect immediately, by the way. It won’t be some sort of quick-paced power play before the next election designed to catch
the crossbench out.
They are aiming for implementation by 2026, giving everyone enough
time to absorb and understand the changes before preparing for them.
Don’t get me wrong, no deal has yet been done between Labor and the Coalition. I imagine the opposition want to go over the
laws with a fine tooth comb.
As they should – because it certainly isn’t beyond Labor to include hidden one-party advantages in the proposed design which would create loopholes only the unions are capable of
taking advantage of, therefore disadvantaging the Coalition electorally in the
years to come.
But short of such baked-in trickiness scuttling a deal to
get these proposed laws implemented, the crossbench should offer their support, not cynical opposition, to what is being advocated
for.
They might even be able to offer something worthwhile that could be incorporated in the package.
To not do so exposes their utter hypocrisy and blowhard false commentary about being in politics to ‘clean things up’.

There is something reassuringly robust about The Punch Bowl Inn.
Not just in the old-fashioned bar, where the Wainwright Gold
is well kept and a huge leather sofa sits
before a blazing wood burner; or in the dining
room, solid and comfortable, with its old beams, well-trodden wooden floors and tables unadorned with cloths;
it’s in the menu, too, mainly British with a Gallic burr, that makes full use of the magnificent local Lake District larder.
Stornoway black pudding with crispy egg and bubble and
squeak: ‘pure Cumbrian comfort by way of Lewis’, is Tom’s verdict
We’re here with Peter Gott, that great Cumbrian hero, and the man behind Sillfield Farm, who has
invited me up to cook at the Westmorland County Show; also chef Phil Vickery,
who certainty knows his alliums; and the force of nature that is Lorraine Stanton,
something of a legend around these parts. But first dinner, and a sublime twice-baked Mrs Kirkham’s
cheese soufflé, the texture as light as a sigh, the flavour profoundly, lasciviously rich.
Mrs Kirkham’s, now made by her son Graham, is one of the world’s great cheeses, and this is a soufflé of quiet
majesty. A mushroom soup is equally splendid, managing to be both light and gutsy, while Stornoway
black pudding with bubble and squeak and a deep-fried egg is pure
Cumbrian comfort by way of Lewis.
There’s a fundamental generosity here, matched by assured technical precision. Duck
à l’orange sees a plump breast cooked rare, the skin crisp, the sauce just the
right side of bitter. It comes with a fat potato fondant and
cabbage spiked with shards of smoked bacon. I eat rump of lamb, four vast just-pink slices,
drenched in the stickiest, most gloriously intense of gravies;
by its side, a tiny shepherd’s pie, one bite of pure ovine brilliance.
Puddings are every bit as fine: a lemon tart, beautifully sharp, with damson sorbet (this part
of the Lake District is famed for its damsons);
along with a banana soufflé, this time the classic version but ethereal, served with vanilla ice cream and
a pot of sticky-toffee sauce to pour deep into its molten centre.
This is good old-fashioned food, immaculately done,
in the sort of pub designed for lingering. It’s getting late now, and we’ve an early start.
But first, another bottle of wine. Dinners like this are too rare to be rushed.
About £45 per head. The Punch Bowl Inn, Crosthwaite,

Australian politicians are almost always opting to fly with Qantas on taxpayer-funded trips, despite Virgin offering
cheaper tickets.
Federal MPs flew with the national carrier for 80 per
cent of work trips last year despite it not always being the cheapest route, according to travel data provided to
the government.
While politicians and their staffers are required to book the cheapest flight,
it also has to be the most efficient, with Qantas offering the most routes between major cities.
MPs are banned from accruing frequent flyer points on taxpayer-funded trips
like ordinary Aussies can, but they can can receive
lifetime status credits, which allows access to airport lounges and flight upgrades.
‘How else can one explain the extraordinary dominance of Qantas in securing bookings by parliamentarians
and their staff?’ Myriam Robin wrote in an opinion piece for the Australian Financial Review.
‘There’s nothing like accruing status credits on someone else’s dime.’
Transport Minister Catherine King has since committed to a review of flight bookings by government officials which
will be conducted by the Department of Finance this year, despite there being just two months left of 2024.
Politicians’ preference for Qantas may also be put down to the airline’s exclusive invite-only ‘Chairman’s Lounge’.

The Flying Kanga-RORT – why you’re footing the bill as airlines wine and dine pollies in VIP club
Daily Mail Australia in August revealed that nearly every single
federal politician in the country has accepted free membership of the club.
Qantas and the Albanese government have both denied the airline
enjoys any disproportionate level of influence over the country’s political classes.
A Daily Mail Australia audit of the members’ interest registers
– in both the House of Representatives and the Senate – revealed almost 93
per cent of the nation’s leaders have been ‘gifted’ membership to the
lavish, all-inclusive lounge.
The high profile ranks of government giftees include Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as well as every member of his 22-person Cabinet,
his seven-person Outer Ministry and all 12 assistant
ministers.
While most politicians declared their Qantas’ privileges as a ‘gift’, Labor MP
Marion Scrymgour listed her membership as her ‘Chairman Lounge entitlement’.
Daily Mail Australia in August revealed that nearly every
single federal politician in the country has accepted free
membership of Qantas’ exclusive Chairman’s Lounge.
And it’s not just politicians on the take, with more than 60 MPs – including Marles,
Chalmers, King, Bill Shorten, Zali Steggall and Tanya Plibersek – disclosing their spouses have also been granted
unfettered, independent access to Qantas’ luxurious members only lounge.
Often touted as ‘the most exclusive club in the country’, membership to
the Chairman’s Lounge has long been veiled in secrecy.
Even the entrances to each of the country’s six opulent VIP clubs – in Sydney,
Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth airports – are suitably discreet.
Though, once inside, the designer lounges are immediately
more ostentatious, with free à la carte fine dining, table
service, a decadent selection of wines and Champagne and a discreet army
of dedicated lounge attendants.
Membership to the club is ‘priceless’ – it cannot be bought for any amount of money nor obtained via any amount of frequent flyers
points.
Instead, each member is hand-picked and approved by the company’s chief executive and
chairman.
