The Summer is approaching very fast this year and for the parents who want to keep their children actively reading – here are 4 Free Summer Programs that you may consider that I am sharing.
- Barnes & Nobles – Select 3 or 4 reading triathlon activities from the Reading Journal list and complete. Bring the completed form between May 17 – September 6 so that your child can earn a Free book from the suggested book list. Also sign up for the Kids Club and earn 30% off list price on any one kids’ book or toy for your children.
- Book Adventure – Kids grade K – 8 can search for books to read offline. They can come back to answer the questions about the book and earn prizes. This is a Free program. I remember reading these books a lot when I was a kid.
- Education – this program is in cooperation with PBS. Parents who want to create their own Summer Reading Camp for their children can use these resourceful tools. Use a new theme for 10 weeks.
- Pizza Hut – Join in the Book it program where your child can earn a coupon for a Free pizza every month. Sign up for the next Fall program.
- Local Public Library – Be sure to stop in and check with your local library and see which summer programs if any will they provide this year. They usually have Free books, lots of fun and prizes.
- Six Flags Read to Succeed – Kids in grade K -6 that complete six hours or non school related reading that is approved by their parents and teachers are eligible to get Free admission to their closest theme park.
- H-E-B Buddy Summer Reading Program (Texas residents only) – Kids age 3-12 will need to read 10 books and record them on the reading log. Once the reading log is completed it should be mailed to the address in order to receive a special t-shirt.
- Half Price Books – Feed your Brain summer reading program – Kids from preschool through high school can earn Bookworm Bucks.
- American Girl Read-a-palooza – If your daughter loves American Girl dolls or books be sure to visit their site for printable pages and fun in-store activities.
Here are 7 additional ways to boost your kids into reading this Summer:
- Take them your local park for a nice blanket or pillow reading.
- Reading at the pool. Have a pool reading party.
- Spread a nice big blanket in your own front or backyard and sit down for a few minutes of reading.
- Going on a long car trip – bring books along or books on CD.
- Set up a tent in your yard and read books on camping.
- Reading at dusk. Don’t forget the flashlights.
- Have a nice hammock in your yard – consider some quiet time.
