for you?
My coupon history
I started couponing when I was at the ripe age of 12. My mother and I used to
gather coupons to help with grocery shopping. Then one time, I won a
radio contest and it came with $120 cash and coupons from “Manwich.” I
thought I had won the lottery {smiles}. My mother and I was so excited.

I have always loved coupons and the more money I can save for my family
the better but I also realized several years ago, that I could help others
save just like you. I love watching the show Extreme Coupon and I
dismiss all of the negative energy behind the show. The craft of being
able to use a coupon correctly and see that total price decrease at the
register is completely amazing. One time, I was at Kroger and
the total was $120.00 and when I gave the cashier the coupons and the
total decreased just from the Kroger shopping card + the coupons, the
total decreased by over $50.00 and this helped me meet my $1,000.00 a
year grocery savings. My goal was to save at least $50 at the register
and I did it!

My family is amazed with the savings we have on groceries and other
items + the stockpile that we do have at home. I do stockpile with
sense and refuse to have things running over in my home {not trying to
be a hoarder}. It is nice to see the products that I have saved on
including the ones for FREE! Yep! FREE! Then there are some that I do
give away. My husband continues to save and only shops at
Kroger. He likes to get the Catalina coupons that come back and then he
comes
home and says, “honey I got you some more coupons.” {Funny right!} My
son and daughters are now getting into the knowledge of coupons. I do
remember taking my youngest daughter with me one time to Publix
and we purchased only 3 items and the cashier ended up giving me cash
back after using coupons. My daughter said with excitement, “we got it
all for FREE momma and money back.” “I love coupons.” {She is only 11}

How couponing can help you?
Couponing can help you to save on grocery items, entertainment, clothing, toys, medications, etc. If you start with a small plan on how much you want to save for the week, month, year, etc. and begin to develop your plan, you could end up save hundreds or even thousands at the end of the year. Here is an example, let’s say you decided that you only wanted to use coupons when going out for family dinners and you plan on saving at least $10 each time you went out. If you go out at least twice a month and save $20 each time you went, you would save over $240 for the year. What could you do with the extra money?
Class Question: How did you get started with couponing? What excites you the most about couponing?
Happy Couponing,
Quida

I started couponing when my husband was going to grad school and we needed to get by on only one paycheck. I thought the couponing would help us save money for that time but now I am addicted.
ATLanta Saving Moms says
Couponing can be addictive but I love it!
Amanda Hawthorne says
I got started since my family was growing and I wanted to stay home with my children. I get so excited to see my receipt at the end of checking out. We joke about how long it can be!
ATLanta Saving Moms says
I love it Amanda! I love those long receipts too! 🙂

I got started by using a coupon here and there and loved seeing the total amount at the register go down. My mom used coupons when we were little as well. My favorite part is seeing how much I can bring the total down using my coupons and gift cards, etc.
ATLanta Saving Moms says
I know Kay! Me too! I love that decreasing total. 🙂
Tammy S says
I always used coupons here and there. Just if I happened to see a coupon for an item we like. Then one time I noticed that I could use the store coupon and a manufacturer coupon together and get the item for almost free. That's when I got really excited. I started looking on the web for couponing sites. Now I am hooked. I love trying to save money for my family. There is nothing quite like watching your total at the register when you hand over your coupons. I have never set a specific goal for how much I want to save. That would probably help me feel like I was doing a better job and being more consistent.
ATLanta Saving Moms says
Don't you just love that FREE deal once it is found Tammy? I get excited to about the Freebies. You may consider setting a savings goal with a reward for yourself at the end – you may just be surprised! 🙂
Val J says
I love saving money. I don't have a specific goal, but unless it is for a special occasion we only eat out or go to the salon for hair cuts if I have a coupon through Groupon, our local news station, or our local newspaper. This is a fun way to try new places as well.
ATLanta Saving Moms says
So do I Val! Yes, I do agree that all of the sources you mentioned are great ways to find some additional savings. There are many out there. 🙂
Brittany Holder says
I got started couponing when I got my first full time job & my boss told me about it. I love couponing because my family is not at all rich, but I would love to continue to better my couponing skills & save even more for them.
ATLanta Saving Moms says
Wonderful Brittany! I am so glad that you were told about couponing and learning more about saving. 🙂

I had to go out on disability last June and my income was cut in half. We have had to cut spending in every way possible, and this is one more way to make our dollars stretch

I love how you got started using coupons and saving!
I had used a few coupons here and there through the years but several years ago I happened upon a couple blogs that showed matching coupons with sales and I was hooked. The past year I got out of couponing and its been slow getting back into it. I love seeing the savings I get from couponing.
ATLanta Saving Moms says
Thank you Karen for the comments. I am glad that you are now back with couponing and saving. 🙂
AndreaC says
I love to save money. I'm not exactly sure when it started. I also remember cutting coupons for my mom when I was young. When I got married, it became even more important since we wanted to save as much money as possible before starting a family. It's such a great feeling to see how much you saved when your receipt prints out!
ATLanta Saving Moms says
I definitely agree Andrea and thanks for sharing. 🙂
