Rein praktisch wurde der Tannenbaum zum Christbaum, weil
man auf einen Baum zurückgreifen musste, der am 24.
Dezember noch grün ist. Allerdings symbolisiert er auch die Ankunft Jesu, denn Partei Zweige soutenieren neues Leben. Die Nadelhölzer aus den europäischen Wäldern eigneten sich auch aufgrund ihres großen Bestandes dazu besser als so manch verwandtes Gewächs.
