I set a goal each year on how much I want to save when I shop for groceries for my family. I use coupons and certain sales a lot to decrease my out of pocket expenses. I apply my yearly savings to other products that I want to buy and also to Save for other items that I need. I read this article today from Yahoo Finance by Kimberly Palmer and I loved the examples that were provided on grocery savings.
This year, my yearly budget for savings on groceries is $500. Right now, my total savings on grocery just from Kroger alone is $479.94 and I have 2 more months left in this year to save an additional $20.06 and meet my goal. I am taking the money this year from my grocery savings to pay off a bill that is close to or less than $500.00 and any extra that is left after the bill is paid, will either go to pay down another bill or buy a small token of accomplishment for myself.
