My grandmother was the most amazing woman ever. She and my grandfather helped my mom raise my brother and me. She was a very strong personality but had a heart of gold. She was "outside the norm"..she worked while many mothers stayed at home in the 50's. She taught me that it is important to not forget who you are and that you can be a strong woman but still be someone who gives love to others unconditionally. Her strength was something that always amazed me….when my grandfather passed away after being married 50 years she held on and kept fighting, she beat breast cancer in her 80's and when she broke her hip (on my wedding day!) she fought through that. She passed away 5 years ago when my daughter was 3 months old. She taught me so many things and I am always thankful to her for her. When I went through some marital issues 2 years ago the strength I showed reminded me of what my grandmother taught me. I could just go on and on about what my grandmother taught me about inner beauty.
As for outer beauty! My grandmother NEVER went anywhere without her makeup on and of course she had her weekly hair appointments! She was definitely a beautiful person inside and out and she taught me that without inner beauty outer beauty is nothing!

My mom is the most special person I know. She has survived so much. In 2006 She had 2/3 of her right temporal lobe removed, because she was seizing up to 100 times a day with meds. She ended up having multiple surgeries from the beginning of 2006 until the end of 2007, she had 12 surgeries. She spent 2 weeks in the ICU at the Mayo Clinic. She survived all of that just to start linking CSF(brain fluid) again in 2010 she again had to have multiple surgeries and a permanent shunt placed. She had just started to get her life back together when started showing the signs of early onset Alzheimer. My father who had worked at the same job for 35 years was declared disabled in Nov. 2011. Because of his and her health problems the were forced to move to an area where they can easily get the medical care and family support they so need with these conditions. In the beginning of April 2012 my mom had to have 2 infected pockets of scar tissue removed. She again had complications and is still recovering. I would like to help make this a supper special Mother's day for her but I am also on disabled. I had an accident in 2002 that damaged my spinal cord. It has been hard to impossible for me to hold a job. Just 2 years ago I was told it was to stressful on my body to keep working. Now I am on SSDI living on less than 1000 dollars a month.

I remember vividly a saying that my grandmother once told me when I was a little girl that really struck my heart and mind by the time that I finally understood what she said.
She said, "your face's beauty and physical outlook is the mirror of your heart".
At first, I didn't know what it meant. But as I become older, that saying that my grandma shared to me, seemed to have implanted in my heart. I understood that if a heart is full of anger, hatred, envy, jealousy, malice and other many negativity, it is mirrored to your outward look. But a heart full of love and compassion manifests to a good and beautiful face that people around you will notice.
That very saying made an impact to me, you know when? When I became a teacher. That's why I would always tell my pupils this with the hope that they'd understand it too as they grow up.
Oh, I just missed my grandma! She's very old now and living in the province. I wish to see her soon!

OMG!! Both grandmothers are all about appearance! They did inspire me, but in an odd way… that beauty is more than just looks. Even if they are going to church or to the post office they need to look their best because "what are people going to think!" Yes, I like to look nice, but God knows I love my grandmas but they can't tell me I look beautiful when I don't, haha.
ATLanta Saving Moms says
Yes, I do agree that beauty is more than just the appearance. You never know who you may meet and when you look great, you also feel great! 🙂

My mother inspired me to inner beauty because she taught me through her deeds not just words how to love myself and how to love others. My mother was a great example to me of a selfless person! She was always helping others in any way she could. My mother taught me to do what I can do for others! My mother did not just say I am sorry with her words, she always tried to do something to help the other person. My mom loved me unconditionally, and always uplifted me with words of appreciation and love! My mom is not with me anymore, but she will always be remembered on Mother's Day! My mother is in my heart and this is where I carry my memories of her.

This one I will answer about my grandmother! I was always over weight while growing up and was made fun of at school a lot. My grandmother was a hair dresser and on really bad days she would come and get me and take me to work with her and she would have someone give me the works! I use to feel beautiful and special. I will always be grateful for what she did for me growing up and helping with my self image. She was the best!!! Thanks for this awesome idea and giveaway! Gale pgan427@yahoo.com
