Topic for the day:
{Basic myths/statistics about couponing}
ΒMyth#1: Couponing takes too much time!
ΒMyth #2: Healthy people can’t coupon and find Healthy Foods?
ΒMyth #3: Couponers are hoarders.
Myth #4: You canβt save a lot
by using coupons.
by using coupons.
Common Coupon Statistics:
Marketers distributed over 305 billion coupons in the year of 2011
92.5 million adult Internet users will use online coupons in 2012
Every hour spent couponing in 2011 is worth an estimated $100
Moms are twice as likely to seach for coupons online as other categories of women.
My answer to the Myths above:
Couponing is a dedication to savings for yourself, family, charity organization in need, etc. If you determine how much time you want to spend with clipping or sorting your coupons, you may not miss the time. I usually sort my coupon inserts when I receive them and when I plan for my shopping trips, I search my coupon database here at SSFAM and then pull the coupons needed. I spend 1 hour doing this process while watching one of my favorite T.V. programs or listening to some of my favorite music artist. Keep in mind that every coupon that you use is $avings in your pocket. You can use these savings on other areas of interest that you find most important.
I am not a hoarder and store most of my products in my pantry and bathroom areas. If you find that you are purchasing more products that are needed, consider a charitable organization that you would really like to donate to or a friend who is in need or a special church that helps others.
Individuals who are health conscious can find coupons at Whole Foods, Toms and other companies to eat healthy foods. Kroger offers healthy food along with Publix and Target and you may think of others. Begin to look for these coupons in their store circulars or sign up for their emails by going directly to their website.
I have hit my target for my yearly savings with both Kroger and CVS. At Kroger, I saved over $1,000 this year in groceries which was my goal and at CVS, I saved over $500.00.

I have definitely heard all of these myths before. When I have tried couponing previously, it took up way too much time, but I might not have been doing it correctly. (That's why I signed up for the class!) I suppose practice makes perfect π

People always say it is too time consuming, and you can never find coupons for things you will use. I actually took a friend to the store with me so she could see what I was buying and how much I saved. Needless to say she now uses coupons. LOL
ATLanta Saving Moms says
LOL! I believe that once your friend saw that price go down and all the wonderful products you were able to purchase using coupons was a great way for her to know that it is possible for her too. Wonderful and I love it! ~ Quida

Janelle says
I agree that couponing is worth it. We coupon so we can take our 4 kids to the movies once a month. With coupons and sales I'm saving at least $60 off what would be a $300 grocery bill. I'd like to become more efficient in my organization and spending. Thank you.
ATLanta Saving Moms says
This is definitely a great way to show your kids how and where to save Janelle. Saving $60 is fantastic and as you learn more tips to help you on your grocery bill savings Janelle, you will get better. π
Savvy Suburban Mama says
I totally agree with you. Up here (in BC, Canada) we don't get much opportunity for the double/triple stuff, but I've saved so much over the years – especially when my boys were babies, just by using coupons. And it didn't take a ton of time at all. It was so worth it – and the astonished eyes of those in line behind me made it worthwhile, too. π
