Coupon Class Online Day #26 – $aving without coupons!

Topic:
Can I $ave without using coupons?
—Yes, you are able to save many dollars without using
coupons.  Be sure you shop your store
grocery circulars.  You can also shop the
department store circulars for sales items.
Try to steer clear of items that are not on sale and watch
clearances.
—Stores have a certain time frame for clearing certain
items. For example, Target usually marks their items down and the price tag
usually contains a red clearance sticker.
Sometimes this sticker may be in the upper right hand column of the
price tag.
—Sometimes, items may be on sale and have not been marked
down {I call these surprise sales items}

—Now check out Targets system for marking down their
merchandise weekly:
* Mondays –
Electronics, Kids Clothing, Stationary {Cards, Gift wrap, etc.}.
*Tuesdays-
Domestics, Women’s Clothing, Pets and Market {foods items}.
*Wednesday-
Men Clothing, Toys, Lawn & Garden, Health & Beauty Items

*Thursday- House wares, Lingerie, Sporting Goods, Shoes, Music,
Movies, Book Décor and Luggage

*Friday –
Auto, Cosmetics, Hardware and Jewelry.

Additional Target saving tip without coupons.  If you see an item on clearance at Target, keep in mind the price may go lower. Be sure to look at the red clearance tag closely.  In the bottom left is the original price of the product.  In the below diagram, the original price was $1.39 and in the bottom right is the clearance price $0.97.  In the top right corner is the % off.  Regular prices at Target mostly end with a “9.”  Food, furniture, and electronics generally don’t go down more than 15% but stores may vary. Holiday items may have more than 90%.  If the price ends in an “8,” it will be marked down again but if it ends in a “4,” chances are it is in the lowest price.

Be sure to try and get to the stores early for the best deals!  Check all clearance aisles. Bring your own bag to Target to carry your shopping items out.  Most Targets will give you 5 cents off for every bag you use.
Question- Did you find this tip about Target useful?  If you shop at Target, what is the cheapest clearance price you found?
Happy Couponing!!!

    Thanks for the tips! I just can't imagine shopping without coupons though. I have saved so much money over the years I will continue to use them. If you use them on items on sale it is even better. It may take more work to pair up coupons with items that are on sale at different stores so I just factor in the amount of money in gas it would take – if it isn't worth the trip I don't make it.

    This is so useful! I didn't know there was a system to Target's clearance pricing. Thank you!

    I love Target! I've found lots of great stuff on sale there. There was a really expensive board game on sale, plus I worked at Target at the time so I got an employee discount and the game ended up only costing a little under $4.

    Before we moved I shopped at Target all the time! Great sales and surprises in store even if you go a lot! I learned a ton from this! Very detailed and good tips! Wish I'd known that back then. Thanks for this!

    I am a loyal Target shopper so thanks for this info..it will help me save even more. I have always been a big fan of clearance Items. I am able to buy designer cloths for very little using the clearance items. I love Macy's for that reason. They often will give an additional 35% off their clearance items so I wait for those sales and then shop for my clothing.

    I don't shop at Target a lot but I have gotten several good deals from things on the clearance shelves. Do you know if they give the discount when you bring any sort of bag or if it has to be one of their totes?
