When you keep the pumpkin uncarved, the flesh will not dry out as quick. Consider placing any candles that you were going to put in the pumpkin to light it up on the outside and around the pumpkin especially if you are using more than one pumpkin. Also keep in mind that if your pumpkin is not carved and you use washable nontoxic paint, that you can use it over again.
Here are 3 ways to keep your pumpkin fresh during Halloween and the Fall season:
* Look for the healthiest pumpkin with healthy stems attached. Look for the pumpkin to be hard to touch with no bug holes or mold in cracked areas.
* Choose pumpkins that are free of rotted spots or feel ripe or soft.
*Wash the pumpkin in a bleach solution {1 tablespoon of bleach mixed in 1 gallon of water} or with a non-toxic agent that will remove any bacteria from the pumpkin.
*If you have the art work included on your non carved pumpkin, you may consider spraying with a sealant to lock in the beauty. Note: be sure to keep your pumpkin out of direct sunlight.
Noncarved healthy pumpkins can last anywhere from 8-12 weeks but keep out of cold harsh weather. The best temperatures are between 50-55 (F). Carved pumpkins last for up to 10 days!
