Sometimes as a parent we can try very hard to be good role models for our children. Some things that we do in life are better examples for kids to use as they grow up and continue learning in school. How many times have you found yourself asking your child: What do you mean you don’t understand? Were you listening in class? Make sure you pay attention! If children are not taught the correct way to have success in school, it may never happen! Here are 3 great ways to prepare your child for success in school!
1. Organize their backpacks/notebook folders! A great way to do this is to show your child how to prep their backpacks the day before school. Class folders| Notebooks are slightly different. When was the last time you looked at your child’s homework or classroom notes. Are they writing where they can understand what to study or review when they come home? If not, teach them how to take notes helpful notes
2. Talk to the teacher! A lot of times our kids are shy when it comes to talking with their teachers but actually, the teachers do like for the student who sees them everyday to come and talk with them about what they don’t understand. I have to coach my 11 year old in doing this sometimes. Teachers will get the chance to learn instantly what concerns the student has and can maybe provide a quick example.
3. Create a Behavior chart and Reward system! I have found that these types of charts can be helpful for kids to take on responsibility and be more accountable for getting up on time, grooming, doing their best on tests, etc. You can place small stickers on accomplishments and decide on what you can afford to give when they have completed the goals!
