announced that many Kmart stores across the country will close to the
public in mid-April. Until then, the stores will remain open for customers. The
stores will begin liquidation sales on January 24. Expect some awesome
clearance sales!
From the Press Release:
“Store closures are part of a series of actions we’re taking to reduce on-going expenses, adjust our asset base, and accelerate the transformation of our business model. These actions will better enable us to focus our investments on serving our customers and members through integrated retail – at the store, online and in the home. Our investments in Shop Your Way and Integrated Retail enable us to migrate the shopping activity of highly engaged members who previously shopped these closed stores to alternative channels. As a result, we hope to retain a portion of the sales previously associated with these stores by nurturing and maintaining our relationships with the members that shopped these locations.”

The closest Kmart to me is about 50-60 miles so I don't shove there often unless I see a really good deal then I'll stop in when I go to town.

The one we had in my town closed a couple years ago and now they just built a cub foods in its place. The one that is still available is somewhat far and can only get there once in awhile. Kinda hard for the shop your way points. Jodi Hoppe Wresh CIAwoman66@yahoo.com

I'm glad the one i go to isn't closing but part of me hoped it was on the list just so I could shop the clearance sale! i remember when one closed in the town we lived in when i was about 12 and my mom took us to buy clearance clothes.

Yes, it is quite interesting.

The one in our town closed about 2 years ago, and I can honestly say it's no loss. Every single KMart I have ever been in does not have most of the advertised products and their customer service is awful. We do have one in the next town, but I am surprised it is still open. There are never any cars in the parking lot!

Wow! Truly interesting Heather.
