Tour the school! A lot of my anxiety about school came b/c I was partially blind and had a hard time finding my way around. Even for kids who can see, going from the to class and finding your way can be daunting. Take a tour before school starts. Find all the classes, the lunchroom and other important rooms before classes start so there is no worry about where to go 🙂

Keep them in the same school where they went to preK or previous grade, if at all possible. My son is going into 1st grade and he has been at this school for 3 years so he's not worried at all. He knows all the teachers and admin and knows how things go.

My daughter will be starting kindergarten this year. She hasn't attended a preschool or anything other than being babysat at a church members house while I'm at work. I know she struggles with change. So to prepare her, I have been getting her involved all summer with Swim lessons- although I'm nearby if needed, I'm not in the lesson with her and I'm for the most part out of her sight. Other than that I've talked to her about what the school day will be like. I will also attend meet the teacher night, and help show her where to find classrooms, etc at her new school.

Go to open house and let them roam around the school. Help them to find their rooms, the lunch room and the gym. Just help them get familiar with the school so that they don't get lost on the first day. This is my daughter's top worry as she is going into middle school this year. thank you!
