Let’s just face it, a lot of people are anxious about the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID_19) including those parents who have smaller kids. Here are 3 ways that I am currently using to protect myself that you may consider if you are not already using some type of method.
* Washing my hands often after contact with any items in the public setting, sneezing, coughing or blowing my nose. The steps that I take in washing my hands are similar to those a surgeon will use before performing surgery (I was taught handwashing techniques like this in nursing school). I let turn on the water and allow the water to run first and then lather either with soap or antibacterial soap. I rub the palms of my hands together in a circular motion, then right palm over the back of the left hand with my fingers interlaced and then I switch hands, palm to palm with my fingers interlaced with each other, back of fingers in the opposite direction, rotate the rubbing of my thumbs of each hand, rotational rubbing with backward and forward clasped fingers and then I rinse my hands with water, the water is still running then I grab my paper towel to dry my hands. After my hands are dry, I take the paper towel to turn off the faucet and discard the paper towel. I sing the birthday song twice. My handwashing technique takes about 20 seconds to complete.
Note: If you do not have access to water/handsoap, try to use handsanitizer. Make sure the hand sanitizer is an alcohol based sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol and then wash your hand with good handwashing techniques with soap and water as soon as you have a chance.
