5 Ways to Teach Kids about Money with Gaming Apps

Teach Kids about Money with
Gaming Apps

There are now
probably thousands of educational mobile apps available for download to mobile
devices. These apps can teach kids about a variety of topics, including
finance. There are now many finance-related apps and games to aid parents in
teaching the value of saving and budgeting to their children of all ages.

Digital Savvy Generation

Kids of today
are growing up at a time when they are given free access to information 24/7. They
are glued to the screens of tablets and mobile devices—in pretty much the same
way that you yourself were to the TV, when you were younger.
According to a
2011 study, 15% of kids between the ages of three and eight used the iPad of their
parents, while 9% have their own iPad devices. The same study found that 77% of
parents believe that tablets were beneficial for their kids. While some groups
would argue otherwise, a separate study
found that nearly half of American parents surveyed believe that tablets,
e-readers, and similar mobile devices have a positive impact to the education
of children.
There could
indeed be benefits that parents and children can get from mobile technologies.
If you are a parent, you can make the most out of this technology by
downloading a number of educational apps, particularly ones that can teach kids
about money. Let’s look at some of them:

Amazing Coin by Joy Preschool
Game

Amazing Coin haseight
interactive games that help kids learn how to count, pay, make change, and
match coins with their correct value. With this app, kids can also learn about
how coins have different values and learn which ones have greater or lower
value than others. The app is designed for both iPhone and iPad devices. iTunes
users have given it a rating of four out of five stars.

Savings Spree by Money Savvy
Generation

The app helps kids learn about the effects of their choices on their finances
through a fun game. Savings Spree teaches kids that they can save for short-term
goals and how to be more frugal. The app also teaches them about the basics of
investment. Savings Spree has won the Parents’ Choice Gold Award and the
Editor’s Choice Award from Childrens Technology Review.

Kids Money by Apps Rocket Ltd.

you can participate in your kid’s learning through the creation of various
scenarios to help them learn about saving and money management. Kids Moneyenables kids to calculate
when they can afford and the importance of needing to earn to be able to afford
the things they want. Users of this simple app have given it three of five
stars on iTunes.

Virtual Piggy by Jonathan Hager

Virtual Piggy app can help
teach your kids about coin currencies, how to count coins, and keep track of
money. The app also helps teach kids about addition and subtraction. The app
costs $0.99 on iTunes.

Tykoon.com

Tykoon.com features an app
that helps teach your kids about how to earn money. Whenever your kids complete
a task that you’ve set out for them, the app keeps track so you can reward them
accordingly for every task completed. Tykoon is a good way to teach them about
the value of hard work and how money is earned.
Teach your kids
about finance, and unlock the benefits of your smartphone or tablet computer by
downloading these recommended apps. Many of these are free or arevery
affordable.
By teaching
children early about the value of money, you can mold these young people to
become financially responsible when they grow up as adults. Don’t forget, of
course, to always be a good example by being financially responsible yourself.
